The constraints were that we had to come up with a name that incorporated the word Niagara and that the label had to include an interesting die-cut. Through my research on the region, i found a story written by a 19th century naturalist about a crow he observed while in the Niagara region. He called it silverspot, so I created a story whereby shortly after he wrote the story, he opened a vineyard nearby. The design however does not reference the time period, rather it is done using cues from the international style and swiss designers. Logo, Postcards, business cards for my personal business identity, ‘werd’. “werd” is derived from my nickname, Drew, spelled backwards as well as the common phrase that people say when they agree with something. The tagline “we. are. design.” plays on the spelling: WE aRe Design. This is a social action poster warning about the massive amount of oil consumption necessary to produce, transport and dispose of bottled water. I created typography by folding the paper labels i collected from found botted water bottles. I then printed the poster by first printing out a photo of an oil slick, and then sending that piece of paper through my printer again, printing the type i created with a 70% black background over the image. Packaging and a promotional poster for an illegal copy of Adobe Creative Suite 3 and 10,000 free and illegal fonts. The idea was to poke fun at the fact that most art students use illegal software and unlicsenced fonts by creating a “product” that could be aquired for free, but all packaged together. The imagery draws on “underground” and secretive motifs. This logo and brand standards manual was created for Soak Laundrobar, a fictional laundromat/bar with retro styling.
